Military Family Housing Fiscal Years ’04 – ’07 & ‘09
Asbestos & Lead Abatement
Location: Sierra Vista, Arizona
Cost: $5.4 Million
For several years the US Army Corps of Engineers have been upgrading and replace family housing at a Southern Arizona Military base which serves as an Army Intelligence Center and Network Enterprise Technology Command. We performed asbestos and lead based paint abatement of over 600 family housing units on the 2004 – 2007 phases. Activities included OSHA Class I, II, II and IV work operations. Some of the materials abated included drywall, texture, floor tile and mastic, roof caulking, sheet vinyl, transite pipe, TSI insulation, sink sealer, furnace tape and construction materials containing lead. Over 1 million square feet of asbestos was removed and disposed of from this site. The 2009 phase consisted of the abatement of asbestos materials before the complete demolition of 17 buildings, 104 units total. Abatement materials included 377,400 square feet of drywall, 7,200 square feet of floor tile and mastic, 500 square feet of roof mastic and Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) bulbs and ballasts as needed. Tight scheduling was necessary in order to perform all abatement before the demolition contractor commenced work was a project challenge. Spray Systems was able to meet this requirement due to our extensive AHERA trained labor pool and experience with scheduling demands.
